Trumbull Co. electric issue to be on ballot

Township electricity users will automatically be switched to the electric company picked by the county commissioners.

WARREN -- A measure Trumbull County commissioners say will lower electricity bills has been placed on the November ballot.
If voters in the county's townships approve the electricity aggregation ballot question, similar to one approved by Warren voters in May, the county commissioners will be able to negotiate with electric companies for low rates.
Electricity users in the townships will automatically be switched to the electric company picked by the commissioners, unless they request otherwise.
Lower rates
Commissioners say they expect to be able to get residential rates 4 percent lower than what people are paying now. The negotiated rate for commercial customers will be about 6 percent lower, they say.
"We are trying to do it easier and better for the people across Trumbull County, and hopefully cheaper," said Commissioner Joseph J. Angelo Jr.
"This will take the place of townshipwide efforts to do the same thing that has been brewing in Howland, Champion and Liberty," said Commissioner Michael O'Brien.
"Hopefully, there will be a savings of money by residents and companies," he said.
