Suspect's mom gets subpoena to testify in murder case

YOUNGSTOWN -- The mother of a murder suspect has been issued a grand jury subpoena in the case against her son, a Mahoning County assistant prosecutor said. He would not elaborate further on the issue.
Beverly Hogan of Boardman was issued the subpoena, said Assistant Prosecutor Jay Macejko. She has not yet testified in the case. Macejko would not say why or when she is required to appear.
Her son, Michael Hogan, faces charges of aggravated robbery and murder. He is accused of the May 31 death of John K. Ruble Sr. of Struthers at a Boardman recycling center.
Police say Ruble, 71, was run down by a car driven by a thief who had tried to steal his wife's purse. Michael Hogan faces trial on the charges next week.
Michael Hogan has said he was at his mother's house at the time of the crime. He said she was not at the home but that he reached her on a cellular phone.
Beverly Hogan has said a physical therapy appointment kept her out of the house and she talked to her son on a cellular phone.
