COLUMBIANA COUNTY Fair evaluation: 'nice, average'

LISBON -- Hazy, hot, humid fair days kept some people away from the Columbiana County Fair last week, but evening crowds made a difference, said Terri Hunter, fair manager.
"I don't have any big new story for you," Hunter said on Monday. "It was a nice, average fair."
But average isn't a bad thing, Hunter quickly pointed out.
Hunter said she is still tallying numbers, but on Monday, fair attendance for the week was about 39,900, so she expects the final tally will easily top 40,000.
The best attendance days were Wednesday and Sunday, when more than 7,000 people attended each day. Demolition derbies were the grandstand entertainment both days.
On Monday, there was still a lot of activity at the fairgrounds as golf carts and four-wheel vehicles used by fair staff were picked up by those who donated them.
Tents were coming down; most of the livestock and their owners had already gone home; and food vendors and ride operators had moved on.
Hunter said Lisbon High School band boosters picked up trash after the fair closed each night and were out again Monday for a final cleanup.
