NEW WILMINGTON Council meeting highlights

Borough council met in regular session Monday and:
Announced that the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection had awarded the borough $66,351 to help pay for a leaf vacuum and truck.
Received notice from Tri State, the borough's trash hauler, that rates are being increased by $1 to $1.50 per household each month. Trash collection is free to residents and Councilman John Altman said the borough will absorb the increase.
Heard Jeff Gilliland, who has rental properties in the borough, complain about the borough's providing Westminster College officials with the names of students renting in the borough. He said that he believes that the names of his renters, which he provides to the borough for fire department and borough use, should be kept confidential. Councilman Kenneth Romig said it is at the borough's request that the college is keeping tabs on students because of the many complaints received from residents about noise and rowdiness in rental units.
Announced that the borough cable TV system will drop Channel 12 out of Cleveland because of poor reception and try out Fox Network News, CNBC and the Weather Channel on an alternating basis.
Hired Jessica Reiber and Adam Ligo as swimming pool clerks and Bethany Shaffer, Matt Waldo and Cylind Garrett as lifeguards until the end of the season. All will be paid $6.10 hourly.
Told Tom Palmer Jr. he could hold a Car Cruise from noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 18. He will be using parking lots and some streets might be closed.
