Mediator meets with board, McDonald teachers association



McDONALD -- Negotiations toward a new contract between the board of education and the 52 teachers have gone to mediation.
A federal mediator met Monday with board members and representatives of the McDonald Education Association.
Included in their first session, which lasted more than four hours, were teachers union president Brenda Borton and Gary Carlile, Ohio Education Association representative.
District treasurer Thomas Radabaugh said a decision for mediation was made a couple of weeks ago. The teachers' three-year contract expires Aug. 31.
Radabaugh said no other mediation sessions were scheduled as of Monday.
The 14 nonteaching employees represented by the Ohio Association of Public School Employees American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 4, AFL-CIO, Local 662 are scheduled to meet Aug. 22 in regular talks for a new pact.
Their three-year contract also expires Aug. 31.
