McDonald appointsvolunteer coaches
McDONALD-- In a special meeting Monday, the board of education appointed two volunteer coaches. They are: Joe Krumpak, assistant junior high football coach, and John Domitrovich, assistant football coach.
Kosar to appearat Scrappers game
NILES -- Former Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar will be at Friday's Mahoning Valley Scrappers game. He is scheduled to sign autographs before the game and throw out the first pitch.
The Bernie Kosar Charitable Trust and the United Way will distribute 200 tickets to various children's organizations in the area for Friday's game.
On Saturday, several members of the Scrappers will be available to speak with and to sign autographs at a Meet the Players session at the Eastwood Mall from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Team mascot Scrappy will also be present for the free session.
Struharik is second
CLEVELAND -- Rob Struharik of Boardman placed second in the wakeboarding "Best Trick" competition at last weekend's Gravity Games. Josh Sanders of Windermere, Fla., finished first.
Clemente victorious
WARREN -- Colin Clemente, a junior at Warren JFK High School, shot a two-day 74-74--148 to win the Northern Ohio Junior PGA championship at Walden Country Club.
Torres choosesOhio Dominican
CAMPBELL -- Juan Torres, a recent graduate of Campbell Memorial High School, will continue his baseball career at Ohio Dominican College.
Torres was a three-year starter at Campbell where he earned a 3.5 GPA. He will major in computer information management.
A member of the Class B League Livi Steel team, Torres was also a member of the National Honor Society.

Aeros lose in 14th
AKRON -- Nate Espy hit his 13th home run and Jason Johnson had an RBI single in the 14th as the Reading Phillies beat the Akron Aeros 2-0 Monday night in Eastern League action.
Espy's leadoff shot over the left field fence came against Ryan Larson (2-3), who was facing his first batter.
Larson also gave up Johnson's run-scoring single, which scored Jorge Padilla. Padilla had singled and advanced to second on a sacrifice.
Mark Outlaw (5-2), who combined on a nine-hit shutout with Franklin Perez, Jimmy Hamilton and Frank Brooks, got the win. Outlaw gave up a single in two innings.
Akron's biggest threat came in the 11th inning, when the Aeros loaded the bases on three walks by Hamilton with two outs. Hamilton then got Corey Erickson to fly out to the shortstop.
Parkhill resigns
COLUMBUS -- Ohio State assistant men's basketball coach Bruce Parkhill resigned Monday to spend more time with his family.
Parkhill was an assistant to coach Jim O'Brien the last two seasons. He was the head coach at William & amp; Mary from 1978-83 and at Penn State from 1984-95, compiling a 270-244 career record. While at Penn State, Parkhill won 20 or more games five times and was 10-5 in the postseason, with one NCAA tournament appearance and four trips to the NIT.

Top field setfor PGA event
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- The PGA Championship, which annually features the strongest field among the four majors, announced a 155-man lineup Monday that includes the top 100 in the world ranking.
If none of those players withdraw by the time the PGA Championship starts Aug. 15 at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Minnesota, it will be the first time a major championship has had the top 100.
The PGA set a record last year with 95 out of the top 100 players in the world.
Defending champion David Toms is joined by 12 former PGA champions, including Tiger Woods, who won the previous two PGAs and will be going for his third major of the year.
San Diego Stateviolates rules
SAN DIEGO -- San Diego State announced a series of self-imposed penalties for violating NCAA rules by holding summer football workouts at a local beach.
The school said it will eliminate 21 practice days through the 2004 season, cut six scholarships through 2005, and suspend assistant coach Damon Baldwin for six practice days, including five without pay, during the 2002 fall camp.
