Bridge set to reopen after final inspection

YOUNGSTOWN -- A bridge on Western Reserve Road is expected to reopen Wednesday after being closed for repair.
The reopening comes six weeks ahead of schedule, said Mark Buccilli of the Mahoning County Engineer's Office.
A final inspection will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday by Engineer Richard Marsico and representatives of Shook Brothers Inc. of Berlin Center, which was the general contractor for the $105,000 project.
The span will be reopened to traffic immediately after the final inspection, Buccilli said.
A portion of Western Reserve Road, just west of state Route 534, was closed July 1 for the project. The old bridge was replaced with a four-sided, concrete box culvert structure, Buccilli said.
That section of Western Reserve Road is on the border of Berlin and Goshen townships.
Buccilli said the road is fairly well-traveled because it's near Berlin Lake and is often used by people headed for a campground there.
"It's great that they were able to get the job done so quickly," he said.
Nearly 70 percent of the project cost was paid with state Issue 2 funds, with the rest coming from revenue from the county's bridge levy fund.
