NEW YORK-PENN Scrappers' win streak snapped

Jamestown ended Mahoning Valley's six-game win streak, 2-0.
JAMESTOWN, N.Y. -- The streak is over.
Two Jamestown Jammer pitchers silenced the Mahoning Valley Scrappers on Sunday for a 2-0 victory at Diethrick Park.
Dustin Kupper and Yorman Bazardo allowed just four singles as they teamed to snap the Scrappers' six-game winning streak.
The Scrappers' loss also dropped them back into second place in the Pinckney Division of the New York-Penn League.
Mahoning Valley (26-20) had been tied for first place with the Auburn Douledays for two days, but Auburn (27-19) defeated Batavia 9-2 Sunday to reclaim the top spot by a game.
The Scrappers have three games remaining in Jamestown before returning home for an eight-game homestand, beginning Thursday against the Tri-City ValleyCats.
Kupper (1-4), a 6-foot-6 right-hander, got his first victory by pitching 62/3 innings, allowing two singles while striking out one and walking one. He took a no-hitter into the seventh inning.
Bazardo relieved Kupper in the seventh, pitching the final 21/3 to record his fourth save of the season.
Jamestown led only 1-0 when the Scrappers tried to put together a rally.
Defensive gem
With Bill Peavey on first after singling, Mike Conroy hit a ball that seemed destined to drop in center field. But second baseman Kevin Randel ran to his right, grabbed the ball, pivoted in shallow center field and threw across his body to retire Conroy at first.
The Jammers also squelched another potential Scrapper rally in the ninth.
Pat Osborn walked, and with two outs, advanced to third on Peavey's second hit of the game. Shaun Larkin then drove a ball to deep right field, only to have right-fielder Jacob Laidlaw make the catch at the wall to end the game.
Bright Wright and Ben Francisco also had hits for the Scrappers.
Despite pitching well, Scrappers starter Michael Rogers (4-3) took the loss. He allowed one run on five hits in five innings, striking out six and walking two.
Michael Hernandez pitched the final three innings, allowing one unearned run on two hits. He struck out seven and walked three.
