CHAMPION Robbery suspect tips off police

The woman was charged with aggravated robbery and is being held in the county jail.

CHAMPION -- A robbery suspect tipped off police to the crime before fleeing from the scene, police said.
Patrol Officer Kelly Boyle said he was sitting in his cruiser behind Payless Shoes at 4301 Mahoning Avenue N.W. around 5:25 p.m. Saturday when a woman came up to him and said the store was being robbed.
"I asked if they were being held at gunpoint, and she said they were," Boyle said. "I went around to the front of the store, went in and found the suspect had just left.
Bought shoes, pulled gun
The officer said the people in the store told him a woman brought three pairs of shoes to the counter then pulled a gun, saying she was robbing the store.
"She then complained they were taking too long to get the money, so she went around the counter and grabbed an undetermined amount of cash," Boyle said.
He asked those in the store to describe the suspect.
"I was shocked because they described the woman who had come to my cruiser," he said.
Boyle said he ran out of the store and saw the woman leaving in a car.
Givonne D. Young, 23, of Jefferson Street, Warren, was arrested on charges of aggravated robbery, failure to comply with a signal of a police officer, reckless operation and resisting arrest.
She is being held in the county jail and was to be arraigned today in Warren Municipal Court.
Chasing the suspect
"I put on my lights and sirens and followed her," Boyle said.
The woman kept going. "She was driving crazy ... about 90 mph," the officer said.
Boyle said the woman went on the state Route 82 bypass and got off at the Homeview Exit.
"When she was going around the bend, she wrecked her car," Boyle said.
The crash happened in front of Joker's Den, a trading card shop.
The chase lasted about 10 minutes. "I was able to arrest her when she got out of the car," Boyle noted.
