Cemetery decorations
YOUNGSTOWN -- Flag holders should be in place on veterans' graves by May 15 in preparation for graves decoration on May 18, with a rain date of May 25, by the United Veterans Council. Families of veterans are reminded that they are responsible for complying with cemetery rules regarding the placing and/or removing of flag holders.
Loyalty Day assembly
JEFFERSON -- The Ashtabula County Council Loyalty Day Assembly will be at 8 a.m. May 6 at Jefferson Area High School, 125 S. Poplar St. The speaker will be George Cox, past department commander. Call (440) 576-8205 for more information.
Corporate flag
INDIANAPOLIS -- The American Legion is asking corporate America to enhance public recognition of those fighting the War on Terrorism by flying the new Corporate Blue Star Flag, which was unveiled earlier this month. Richard J. Santos, national commander of the American Legion, urged that the flag be flown and that employers make up the difference in the salary loss of their employees called to active duty in the military service.

ADVANCED TRAINING
Area residents who have completed advanced military training include:
UNavy Ensign Donald H. Galbraith, son of Lenore L. and Donald W. Galbraith, Struthers, graduated from the 13-week Naval Cryptologic Officer Basic Course at the Naval Technical Training Center, Corry Station, Pensacola, Fla. Galbraith is a 1990 graduate of Struthers High School and a 2000 graduate of Ohio State University.
UArmy Staff Sgt. Randy E. Ballew Jr. has graduated from the Army Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course at Fort Eustis, Va. Ballew, an instructor/writer, is a son of Sandra L. Ballew, Sharon, Pa., and he is a 1990 graduate of Sharon High School.
UArmy National Guard Pvts. Michelle L. Lutz and John L. Hawkins Jr., Army Reserve Pvt. Tracey L. Clinkscale, and Army Pvt. Aaron S. Burks have graduated from the unit supply specialist advanced individual training course at Fort Lee, Va.
Lutz is the daughter of Judy A. DiBettiste, Hermitage, Pa., and Ken M. Lutz, Sharpsville, Pa., and is a 2001 graduate of Sharpsville High School.
Clinkscale is a daughter of Darlene E. Clinkscale and Lawrence Clinkscale Jr., both of Youngstown, and is a 2001 graduate of Liberty High School.
Hawkins is a son of John L. and Susan C. Hawkins, New Castle, Pa., and is a 2001 graduate of Lawrence County Vocational Technical High School, New Castle.
Burks is a son of Yvonne and Arthur L. Burks of Warren, and is a 1998 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, Warren.
PROMOTIONS
UNavy Ensign Gregory T. Marcinko, son of Linda J. and Michael Marcinko, was commissioned after completing the 13-week Officer Candidate School at Naval Aviation Schools Command, Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Fla. Marcinko is a 1995 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and a 2001 graduate of Ohio State University.
UAir Force Reserve Technical Sgt. Kenneth R. Pauley was promoted to his present rank while serving as a crew chief with the 910th Maintenance Squadron, Youngstown Air Reserve Station, Vienna. His wife, Tami, is the daughter of Leslie Yocom of Howland, and he is a 1990 graduate of Lordstown High School.
UAir Force Reserve Master Sgt. John A. Falfas was promoted to his present rank while serving as a security forces specialist with the 910th Security Forces Squadron, Youngstown Air Reserve Station, Vienna. He is the son of Ernest A. and Patricia A. Falfas, Warren, and his wife, Melissa, is the daughter of Gary P. and Dorothy A. Dishong. He is a 1987 graduate of Howland High School.

Navy Chief Petty Officer Ralph W. Oyster, a 1985 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Youngstown, has re-enlisted while serving at the Field Command Defense Nuclear Agency, Kirtland Air Force Base, N.M. He is a son of Shirley R. and Ralph E. Oyster, Youngstown.
Niles man returns
Navy Seaman Joshua N. McClimans, son of Neal J. McClimans, Niles, has returned from a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Sea while assigned to the guided missile cruiser USS Leyte Gulf, home ported in Norfolk, Va. McClimans is a 1999 graduate of Niles McKinley High School.
HONORS
Boardman man honored
Pfc. Stephen Gardner of Boardman, a member of the Ohio National Guard's 838th Military Police Unit based in Austintown, is providing security at the Army's Fort Bragg, N.C., as a member of the 323rd MP Unit based in Toledo. While on active duty, Gardner received the Commander's Award for Excellence and was Soldier of the Month for February.
A Farrell connection
Army Chief Warrant Officer 2 William D. Kilgore was decorated with the Army Achievement Medal while serving as a UH-60 Blackhawk pilot at Giebelstadt Army Air Field, Germany. He is the son of Dolores M. Russell, Hoone Avenue, Farrell, Pa., and William Kilgore, Marienville, Pa.
