COLUMBUS -- Jon Busch had a shutout in his first career start, and the Columbus Crew used an early goal by Brian Maissonneuve to beat D.C. United. Columbus forward Brian McBride and United defender Eddie Pope played their last MLS games before joining the United States national team as it prepares for the World Cup. Both are expected to start for the U.S. team. McBride scored the lone goal for the United States at the 1998 World Cup in France. Maissonneuve's header in the 15th minute was all Columbus (2-3) needed to snap a two-game losing streak and win for the first time in four tries at home, where the Crew lost only one regular-season game all of last season. McBride centered a cross to Maisonneuve who headed the ball over D.C. goalkeeper Nick Rimando. D.C. (2-4) remained winless in four road games and could muster little offense for the final 50 minutes, playing a man down after defender Ivan McKinley ran Busch, the 2001 A-League goalkeeper of the year, in the 40th minute.
MetroStars 1, Earthquakes 1, OT
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Clint Mathis scored a goal in his final game before heading off to play in the World Cup as the New York-New Jersey MetroStars tied the San Jose Earthquakes. Mathis, a likely starter for the U.S. team, scored for the MetroStars (3-2-1) in the 55th minute on a play set up by Rodrigo Faria and Diego Serna. The MetroStars have not defeated the Earthquakes since 1998. The Earthquakes (3-2-1) tied it in the 72nd minute, when Ariel Graziani knocked home a rebound of a shot by Ronnie Ekelund that trickled past MetroStars goalkeeper Tim Howard.

PASADENA, Calif. -- John Spencer scored four minutes into overtime as the Colorado Rapids withstood a 21-shot barrage from the Los Angeles Galaxy for a victory. Rapids mid-fielder Pablo Mastroeni and Galaxy midfielder Cobi Jones were both playing their final games for their MLS teams before reporting Wednesday to Cary, N.C., where the United States national team is beginning preparations for the World Cup. It was the first loss of the season for Los Angeles (2-1-2), which had been Major League Soccer's last undefeated team.
Revolution 2, Fire 2
NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Joe Franchino scored in the 83rd minute to give the New England Revolution to a tie with Chicago Fire. It was the final game for the Fire before forward Josh Wolff and mid-fielders Chris Armas and DaMarcus Beasley depart for the World Cup. Franchino's free kick from the top of the 18-yard box curled under the crossbar, inside the right post and out of Fire goalkeeper Zach Thornton's reach. Both teams failed to score in two overtime periods, despite New England (1-2-1) playing a man down after Jim Rooney was given a red card in the 87th minute.
Burn 1, Wizards 1
DALLAS -- Kansas City goalie Tony Meola made eight saves, including one in the 86th minute, as the Wizards tied the Dallas Burn. Meola made a diving save to his left on a header by Dallas' Steve Morrow to help send the game to overtime. Dallas (1-1-3) tied it on Jason Kreis' free kick in the 52nd minute. Kreis, kicking from the right corner of the goalie box, fired a shot into the left corner over the wall of Kansas City defenders. Chris Klein opened the scoring for Kansas City (1-1-2) in the 15th minute.
