Police found the victim, John Houser, 38, slumped over a chair in his residence bleeding from the abdomen at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday. He drifted in and out of consciousness as an ambulance crew prepared to take him to the hospital, police said.
Houser told police a man he knew stabbed and robbed him. He told a relative he was robbed of $175 at a Glenwood Avenue store and walked home afterward, police said. A hospital official said Saturday evening that no record could be found of Houser as a patient.
