Annual used-book sale
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The 21st annual four-day used-book sale will be from Wednesday through Saturday at the New Wilmington Fire Hall and is open to the public. Sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of New Wilmington, this event offers area residents a yearly opportunity to purchase many of those books they want and often can't find at affordable prices.
All books are donated to the club and often include many of the latest and most popular titles. The sale features thousands of books, all sorted and displayed under 50 or more of the requested categories. Popular paperback editions are displayed separately.
Sale hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
Tourism event planned
NILES -- A 45-foot mobile tourism classroom will motor to Cafaro Field on May 9 as part of a National Tourism Week celebration sponsored by the Trumbull County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The event, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., will feature displays and presentations by local travel agencies, bus tour companies, motels and restaurants.
The highlight will be a visit by the Travel & amp; Tourism Institute's Mobile Classroom, a customized bus that travels the country to hold discussions, play promotional and educational videos and hand out brochures.
Meet Mahoning Valley
YOUNGSTOWN -- Meet the Mahoning Valley, a unique, one-day opportunity for relocated executives or newly promoted professionals and their spouses to learn about our community in a small-group setting, will be offered again May 17.
Participants will learn about important issues relevant to the Mahoning Valley and how those issues affect business and the community.
The program is presented by Leadership Mahoning Valley. The fee is $100. Class size is limited. For more information, call Susan Moorer in the Leadership office at (330) 841-7860.
Candidates to debate
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Jewish Community Relations Council and Northside Citizens' Coalition will be sponsoring a debate among candidates in contested primaries for the 17th Congressional District, 60th Ohio House District and Mahoning County commissioner and common pleas judge at 6 p.m. Monday at the Jewish Community Center, 505 Gypsy Lane.
The program is free and open to the public.
Block watch to meet
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Buckeye Eyes and Ears Block Watch will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Word of Grace Church on Mount Vernon Avenue.
The Mahoning County Board of Elections will be there to show and explain the new computer touch-screen voting machines.
