PREP BASEBALL Big innings key Rayen's victory



Mark Sikora pitched a three-hitter for Boardman in a 17-0 win over Warren Harding.
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Rayen School baseball team's 13-12 victory Friday over Wilson was keyed by three big innings when it scored five runs in the first inning, four in the fourth and three more in the fifth.
Eddie Williams paced Rayen with a double and two singles, while Miguel Alvarado and Brian Allen each had two singles.
Travis Butterfield hit two doubles, two singles and drove in two runs for the Redmen (1-8).
Chris Truman hit a double and two singles and Matt McBride three singles.
Boardman 17, Warren Harding 0: WARREN -- Boardman pounded out 14 hits and rode the three-hit pitching of Mark Sikora to an easy Steel Valley Conference win.
The Spartans were led by Andy Good and Sean Curry with three hits apiece. Good had a double and triple, while Curry ripped a home run and a double.
Jason Nolfi also homered for the Spartans.
Boardman broke the game open with 10 runs in the top of the fifth inning. The game was halted after five innings because of the 10-run rule.
Canfield 8, Struthers 6: STRUTHERS -- With the score tied at 6-6, Frank Turocy hit a two-run single in the top of the seventh inning for the Cardinals (13-4, 7-1 Metro Athletic Conference).
Mike Turjanica had a triple and a double for the Cardinals, who trailed 6-5 after five innings. Matt Dubos had a triple for the Wildcats (7-6, 5-5).
Niles 13, Salem 5: SALEM -- With the score tied 5-5, Niles took the lead for keeps in the fifth inning when it scored three runs, and the Red Dragons put it out of reach with a four-run surge in the seventh.
Joe Toth paced Niles (8-5, 5-3 MAC) with three hits, which included a double, while teammate Joe Skocik hit two doubles.
Ken Buckley led the Quakers with two doubles and a single. Grant Sevek hit a triple and single.
South Range 12, Jackson-Milton 2: NORTH LIMA -- George Rohan tossed a one-hitter and struck out 10 hitters as South Range rolled past Jackson-Milton in an Inter-County League contest.
Tom Kimmel, Jimmy Sanders, Hogie Walley and Rohan all had two hits for the winners. Leo Infante had the lone Jackson-Milton hit, a double.
Mineral Ridge 1, Mathews 0: MINERAL RIDGE -- With one out in the bottom of the seventh, the Rams' Michael Buckner walked and was replaced by Bobby Burgess as a pinch-runner.
Brandon Linert then hit a ground-rule double and Sean Fowler was intentionally walked to load the bases.
Eric Besoiu then belted a ball to the fence to score the winning run for Mineral Ridge (8-10, 6-3 ICL).
Anthony Jones had three hits and had a no-hitter until the seventh for Mathews (5-8, 4-5).
Western Reserve 7, McDonald 4: MCDONALD -- Ben Martin and Nick Sanders each had a single and a double, while Andrew Lenhart doubled and drove in three runs for Western Reserve (12-3, 8-2 ICL).
Luke Srock and Chris Mountain also tacked on two hits apiece, while Brandon Keck (5-0) struck out 10.
Matt Vukovic doubled and singled for McDonald.
Lakeview 12, Brookfield 2: CORTLAND -- Phil Butch, Andrew Mascioli and B.J. Paczak each had a double for the Bulldogs (7-4, 3-3 Trumbull Athletic Conference).
Lakeview scored five runs in the first and five more in the second inning.
Keith Haun doubled for the Warriors (2-7, 2-5).
Hubbard 11, Girard 2: GIRARD -- The Eagles broke open the game with a five-run surge in the top of the seventh inning.
Dan O'Niell hit a triple for the Indians (10-3, 7-3 TAC).
Liberty 10, Badger 8: LIBERTY -- The Leopards (4-5, 3-4 TAC) rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to prevail.
Jesse Webb paced Liberty with two home runs and a single. He drove in five runs and scored two times.
Youngstown Christian 10, Cleveland Heritage 7: YOUNGSTOWN -- Themi Tsarnas had four hits, including two doubles, for Youngstown Christian (6-4).
Mike Brydy and Chris Suszczinski each had two hits. Heritage dropped to 2-6.
