Niles tax deadline
NILES -- Tuesday is the deadline to file Niles income tax returns. There is a $15 late fee plus interest and penalty on the amount due for any return not filed by that date. The office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays. Call (330) 544-9000, Ext. 7.
Boathouses to open
CANFIELD -- The Lake Glacier and Lake Newport boathouses in Mill Creek Park will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. weekends beginning May 4. Pedal boats are available for rent at both boathouses. Rowboats also are available for rent on Lake Glacier. Beginning May 29, the boathouses will be open each week from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
The passenger boat on Lake Glacier, meanwhile, will be operating from noon to 6 p.m. weekends and holidays beginning Memorial Day weekend. To charter the boat, call (330) 702-3000.
Union endorsement
AKRON -- U.S. Rep. Thomas C. Sawyer of Akron, running in the May 7 Democratic primary for the 17th Congressional District seat, picked up the endorsement of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 880 union in Akron.
