SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Slippery Rock University's Institute for Community, Service-Learning and Nonprofit Leadership will join with a numer of university athletic teams and the Slippery Rock Area Parks and Recreation Commission to co-host a youth soccer tournament titled Kicks-4-Cans in which the entry fee will help support the Slippery Rock Feed My Sheep Food Cupboard.
The plans call for each participating team to donate a minimum of 25 canned goods as its registration fee.
The tournament will offer 20 minute games in three age brackets ages 8 and under, 10 and under and 12.
Teams will be composed of five players with non substitions allowed during or between games. In addition to bracket winners, there will be an award for the team with the most heart, cited for donating the largest number of food items.
The games will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday on the SRU soccer fields. Registration deadline is today. For details call (724) 738-2273.
