Asian/Pacific heritage event at post office

YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown Post Office's Diversity Advisory Committee invites the public to join a celebration of National Asian/Pacific Heritage Month.
The observation will be at the Youngstown Main Post Office, 99 S. Walnut Street, from 2 to 4 p.m. May 5.
Children and adults will have an opportunity to learn about the achievements of some leaders from our local community. The theme is "Honoring the Accomplishments of Asian/Pacific Americans in the Military."
The guest speaker will be Dr. Gail Okawa, associate professor of English at Youngstown State University, on the topic "Barbed Wire and Beyond."
Entertainment will be a film, "Beyond Barbed Wire," which celebrates the human sacrifice and courage of Japanese-American soldiers in World War II. These soldiers absorbed the highest casualties and became the most decorated units in World War II.
While they fought in Europe, their families at home lived behind barbed wire in American internment camps.
Food and beverages will be served.
The 10th Lunar New Year stamp, "The Year of the Horse," will also be unveiled at this celebration.
Confirm attendance by calling Ron Chapman at (330) 740-8839 as soon as possible.
