YOUNGSTOWN -- A meeting planned by Elizabeth Baptist Church for 5 p.m. Friday at the church about a zoning issue on a Himrod Avenue building has been postponed. It will be rescheduled.
Bar-permit summons
YOUNGSTOWN -- An undercover vice-squad officer issued a misdemeanor summons to a 51-year-old bartender at Sundown Tavern on South Avenue, alleging that the bartender was serving beer to customers without a permit.
The officer said the bartender served beer to three patrons around 10:40 p.m. Wednesday. When he asked for a permit, the bartender could not locate one.
The bartender then called the bar owner, who told the officer there is no permit and her lawyer is working to obtain one.
Vehicle title probe
STRUTHERS -- City police and the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles are investigating possible fraudulent titles issued to a city man for a tractor-trailer.
The 30-year-old man, a truck driver, told police Tuesday that he bought the truck from O.S. Hill Co., East Liverpool, and the trailer from East Manufacturing Co., Randolph, in November 1999, and made final payments on both last July.
Since then, police reports state, the sellers have threatened to repossess both the truck and trailer.
The man finally received titles to both in March. According to reports, the titles arrived on the same day in handwritten envelopes.
When the man took the titles to the OBMV, an employee there told him both titles were fraudulent.
Parking violations
CAMPBELL -- Police towed four vehicles in violation of parking ordinances early Tuesday.
They were removed from in front of 150 Chambers St., 44 Seventh St., 136 Jefferson and 37 Seventh St.
Grant for paving
NORTH LIMA -- South Range School District will receive $35,000 from the Mahoning County Division of Recycling to pave a section of parking lot at the high school.
Schools Treasurer Jim Phillips applied for the grant, which was awarded with the stipulation that 5 percent of the blacktop material contains recycled tires. He was assisted by Ed Chizmar, the district's building and grounds supervisor.
A 28,000-square-foot section of the parking lot near the new strength training facility is the area slated for improvement. The entire project is expected to cost $42,000; the district will pay the remaining $7,000.
Bids were to be opened at noon today in the board offices. Phillips said work should begin on the project early this summer.
Guilty plea in thefts
YOUNGSTOWN -- Terri A. McCambridge, 39, of Macklin Road, New Springfield, pleaded guilty Tuesday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court to two counts of theft.
She faces 21/2 to 61/2 years in prison when she is sentenced by Judge James C. Evans, who ordered that a background check be done first.
McCambridge stole between $300,000 and $450,000 from JCM Contracting Inc. and MJT Construction, both of New Springfield, between September 1998 and June 2001, according to Assistant Prosecutor Jay Macejko.
McCambridge provided secretarial services for both companies. McCambridge is also being sued by both companies. The suit is pending in common pleas court.
Cash awaits owners
LIBERTY -- Nearly $95,000 is up for grabs.
Police Chief Anthony Slifka said the $94,820 was found in the Madison Avenue apartment of Niles J. Emmert, 25, who was found shot to death in March 2001.
Federal court has ruled the money is contraband, and anyone can claim all or part of it if they can show it belongs to them.
The chief said an investigation shows the money was gained from illegal activities.
If the money isn't claimed, 20 percent goes to the federal government, a portion goes to the Mahoning Valley Violent Crimes Task Force and the balance goes to township police.
Emmert was found lying on the patio of his apartment. Slifka said an investigation is complete and the case is in the hands of the county prosecutor's office.
