AUSTINTOWN -- A Kerrybrook Drive man was in critical condition in St. Elizabeth Health Center's surgical intensive care unit this morning with injuries suffered in an assault. Robert A. Rogers, 43, was found lying in a pool of blood around 3:50 p.m. Tuesday in the parking lot outside Decorative Aluminum on LeHarps Road. Rogers works as a laborer and a driver for the business. Police said Rogers had injuries to his head, stomach and leg. They are not sure what type of weapon caused the injury. A Decorative Aluminum employee told police Rogers went to his truck in the parking lot to get a knife for work. The employee said that a few minutes later, he looked outside and noticed Rogers lying on the ground.
Assault, robbery
AUSTINTOWN -- Township police charged Jacob T. DiCarlo, 21, of Ayrshire Drive with felonious assault and aggravated robbery in an attack on a woman in the parking lot of Key Bank, South Raccoon Road, last summer. Police said he is being held in Mahoning County jail. DiCarlo was arrested April 5 by township police, the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, and the Mahoning County Violent Crimes Task Force. Police did not say why they waited until today to release the arrest information. An additional suspect is still at large, they said. Police said two men, one with a knife, robbed a woman outside Key Bank July 30 and got away with her bank deposit. The woman was injured during the attack.
Drug-abuse sentence
AUSTINTOWN -- A Deer Creek Apartment resident who pleaded guilty to drug abuse was ordered to pay $100 in fines and court costs Monday night by Mahoning County Court Judge David D'Apolito. Gregory Chirozzi, 19, of 4501 Deer Creek, also received a 180-day driver's license suspension. A charge of possession of drug paraphernalia was dropped as a result of the plea. Police arrested Chirozzi and his roommate, Christopher Sidote, 20, after finding suspected marijuana in their apartment in March. Sidote's attorney made a motion Monday night to transfer his case to Mahoning County Drug Court.
Money stolen from car
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 35-year-old Canfield man reported to city police that someone broke into his Mercedes Benz parked on the city's West Side on Monday morning and stole more than $3,600 from a glove box. The man said he had closed the Danny G's Party Shop on Mahoning Avenue and placed a bank deposit bag containing the money inside his glove box before realizing he had a flat tire. He parked the vehicle in the driveway of a home he rents out on North Hazelwood Avenue and got a ride home. The renters notified him around 8 a.m. that the car had been broken into. A driver-side window was broken, a headlight was cracked and the money and vehicle documents were taken, police reports show.
Charges bound over
YOUNGSTOWN -- Charges against a 26-year-old South Side man accused of firing a sawed-off shotgun into the School Street home of his ex-girlfriend have been bound over to a Mahoning County grand jury. Adrian Gordon of Parkcliff Avenue faces a felony charge of discharging into a habitation and two felony weapons counts. Municipal Court Judge Robert P. Milich sent the case to the grand jury Monday. Gordon is accused of shooting at the house around 1:30 a.m. April 11.
Lawyer sues client
YOUNGSTOWN -- One of two city policemen acquitted of robbing a man in a bar last year is being sued by his lawyer. Mark L. Rakocy of Cordova Avenue has not paid the $20,000 he owes Atty. Dennis DiMartino, who represented him in the criminal case, according to a lawsuit filed by DiMartino in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court. Rakocy and officer Christopher Lombard were accused of assaulting and robbing a Struthers man in the restroom of a Youngstown bar while they were off-duty in March 2001. A common pleas court jury found them innocent in January.
Man robbed in home
CAMPBELL -- An 87-year-old Hamilton Boulevard man was robbed of $300 in cash and an undetermined number of checks after he invited two strangers into his home. The man told police that two men who looked familiar came to his door Monday and he allowed them inside. Police reports say the men asked the man for money and when he told them he didn't have any, one of the strangers searched his pants pockets, finding three $100 bills. The other stranger searched a back room, locating a book of checks. The man told police the robbers took the cash and checks and fled in a gray two-door automobile.
