YOUNGSTOWN -- Senior guard Ryan Patton was named the 2002 Dom Rosselli Most Valuable Player for the men's basketball team.
Patton, who finished ranked in the top five in career assists in his four-year career, also earned the Jeff Covington Leading Scorer Award and the Assists Leader Award.
Patton averaged 14.6 points per game and had 141 assists on the season to lead the team and the Horizon League.

Mooney wins title
STRUTHERS -- Four players each scored two goals to help Cardinal Mooney defeat Niles 9-3 for the boys high school varsity championship of the Valley Sports indoor soccer league.
Noah Brak, Christo Frangopoulos, Kiki Willis and Alex Simon each scored twice for the Cardinals.
Chris Styn had two goals and Brad McFadden one for Niles.
Warren has lead
ELLWOOD CITY, Pa. -- Warren continued to run away with the lead in the Penn-Ohio Golf League.
The two-time defending champions totaled 33 1/2 points and hold a commanding lead in the standings with 71 points. Sharon Hickory VFW is second with 47 1/2, New Castle Del Mar is third with 36 and Youngstown Commissioner Ed Reese is fourth with 35 1/2.
Youngstown's Jack Pico was medalist with a 69, while Warren's Jim Perry and Rokki Rogan and John Zebroski of Sharon all had 70s.
Chris Cioffi and Zebroski won the best-ball event. Saturday the league will play at Candywood at 9 a.m.
Zumpella fourthin district event
MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Allegheny College golfer Joe Zumpella, a Struthers High graduate, finished fourth among 75 participants in the District II Championship at Hershey Country Club.
Zumpella had a two-day score of 153 and was named first team all-district.
Mooney-Ursulinegame postponed
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Mooney -Ursuline high school baseball game, scheduled for Friday has been postponed. The game will be made up on April 30 at Cene Park, with the junior varsity beginning at 4:30 p.m. and the varsity at 7.
Geneva's McCreadynational qualifier
BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- Geneva College junior Anne McCready qualified for the NAIA national meet with her performance last weekend at Slippery Rock.
McCready ran a time of 15.03 seconds, the 11th-best time in the country, in the 100-meter hurdles.
Last year she placed 12th in the national meet.

Jack Roush stillin serious condition
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- NASCAR team owner Jack Roush was still in serious condition, three days after his small plane crashed into a lake in southern Alabama.
Roush had a head injury and broke his left leg when the two-engine plane hit a power line and flipped upside down into the lake Friday night.
Nancy Lopezaccepts exemption
FAR HILLS, N.J. -- Nancy Lopez, who announced last month that this will be her last full season on the LPGA Tour, accepted a special exemption to play in the U.S. Women's Open from July 4-7 at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan.
She was a four-time runner-up (1975, '77, '89, '97) in the Open.
Appeal denied
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Heavyweight contender Chris Byrd's bid to have champion Lennox Lewis stripped of his title was turned down by the IBF appeal tribunal.
The IBF said it would sanction Lewis' June 8 fight against Mike Tyson and the winner would then enter into negotiations for a fight with Byrd.
