PREP SOFTBALL Mooney resumes fast pace
Jackson-Milton won without a hit, while Western Reserve and Lakeview stayed unbeaten.
WARREN -- Danielle Kepics had two singles and two RBIs for Cardinal Mooney (11-1, 4-1 Steel Valley Conference), which won its ninth straight game, beating Warren Harding 10-1 in six innings in a softball game Monday.
Kepics (6-1) struck out 11. Pam Walko had two RBIs.
Warren Harding is 3-7, 0-5.
Jackson-Milton 2, Springfield 1: NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Leah Fenton scored the game-winning run for Jackson-Milton (6-4) in the top of the ninth inning on a ball hit by Shannon McGee. Corey Velk (5-4) had four strikeouts and two walks.
Danielle DeWitt and Renee Warren had two hits for Springfield. Maggie Marsh (8-4) tossed a no-hitter.
Western Reserve 4, Mineral Ridge 2: MINERAL RIDGE -- Quinn McCammon had three hits, including a first-inning home run and two RBIs for the undefeated Blue Devils (8-0, 7-0 ICL).
Holly Mills singled twice, Sarah Gerberry had a single and a double, while Katie Olive had a two-base hit and both RBIs for the Rams (8-3, 4-2).
McDonald 2, Lowellville 0: LOWELLVILLE -- Cindy Green had 12 strikeouts and one walk for McDonald (3-6, 2-6 ICL).
Hubbard 6, LaBrae 3: LEAVITTSBURG -- Brittany McKee had three hits and scored the go-ahead fun for Hubbard (6-1).
Kelly Hudy had three hits, two RBIs and scored in the three-run seventh.
Lakeview 8, Girard 4: CORTLAND -- Kaleigh McQuiston and Kate Burnett each had two hits for Lakeview (7-0).
Beth Carney had three hits and scored two runs for Girard (2-1). Shannon Slezyak had two hits and Kristen Reno added two RBIs in the loss.
Southington 4, Ledgemont 0: SOUTHINGTON -- Samantha Mowrer struck out 11 and walked five, shutting out Ledgemont to improve to 2-2.
Jo Larkin had two hits for the Wildcats (7-5, 4-1 East Suburban Conference).
