EAST PALESTINE Farm market lacks vendors

EAST PALESTINE -- Without more vendor interest, there won't be a farmers market downtown this summer.
Councilwoman Becky Burns said Sky Bank has agreed to allow vendors to set up stands on a portion of the bank property.
After two meetings of the farmers market committee, however, only a few vendors have shown interest.
Burns said the market would again be Wednesday afternoons, likely during July and August.
Last summer was the first year city council approved a farmers market, allowing area produce vendors to set up stands Wednesday afternoons.
Burns, who chairs the city council's development committee, said the market was well received by the community.
The market became a gathering place for residents and was as much a social event as a commercial venture, she said.
She said one vendor from nearby Enon Valley, Pa., said he plans to try to encourage other growers from his area to participate.
