Arrest in murder
YOUNGSTOWN -- City police arrested a third man in last month's murder of a 29-year-old McBride Street man. Lorice Moore, 24, of McGuffey Road, faces a murder charge in the death of Stephen Shackleford, who was found March 19 outside his home in the Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority's Victory Annex complex on the East Side.
Witnesses told police Shackleford was chased from his home by two men who were shooting at him. Investigators said four men were involved. They shot at him, then came closer and shot him again.
Moore was arrested Monday. Two other men have been indicted in the slaying. Eddie Bryant, 24, of Cohasset Drive, and Armin D. Moore, 23, of Kendis Circle, each faces one count of murder and a firearm specification.
An outstanding warrant remains for Calvin Moore, 30.
Rape and beating
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 30-year-old South Side man is accused of driving his girlfriend around the East and South sides March 3, stopping repeatedly to beat her and rape her.
Shajehan Haywood of West Warren Avenue was arrested Monday on warrants charging him with one count of assault and three counts of rape.
The 33-year-old woman told police the couple argued before she spent four hours in his car. She said he beat her with his hands and a stick and stopped twice at his father's residence to rape her and once at a drive-through store where he forced her to perform sexual acts. The woman was treated at a hospital for swollen eyes and bruises over her body.
Employee threatened
STRUTHERS -- Police are searching for a woman who threatened an employee at Family Dollar Store around 4:45 p.m. Saturday.
Reports say an assistant manager saw the woman stuffing merchandise into her coat and purse and followed her outside, where the woman pulled a gun from her purse showed it to the employee and drove off in a blue Pontiac Grand Am.
South Side gunfire
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police responded to two house shootings within 20 minutes of each other on the city's South Side. A 66-year-old Oak Hill Avenue woman told police that she was in her living room at about 10:50 p.m. Monday with family members, including six children under the age of 3, when they heard two to three gunshots. A bullet hole was found in a second-story bedroom. A 29-year-old Brooklyn Avenue woman reported that she was in her attic around 11:09 p.m. when she heard several gunshots and saw a bullet hole in her attic wall.
Counterfeit money
YOUNGSTOWN -- City police confiscated a counterfeit $100 bill Monday that was found in a cash register at McDonald's restaurant on Mahoning Avenue. The bill turned up in a cash drawer Sunday. Restaurant policy prohibits employees from accepting $100 bills. A manager told police that three employees had access to the drawer during the shift but none recalls accepting the bill. All refused to take a polygraph test.
I-80 truck accident
HUBBARD -- A tractor-trailer overturned on interstate 80 early today. The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the driver fell asleep around 4 a.m. and lost control.
Testosterone arrest
AUSTINTOWN -- A Youngstown man was arrested here Monday evening after police found a bottle of injectable testosterone in his pocket. The man, 26, of South Dunlap Avenue, is charged by police with drug-abuse testosterone, possession of drug abuse instruments, and driving under suspension. Police also found two used syringes, an alcohol prep pad and bloody tissue in an envelope in the man's car. Police stopped the man's car around 7:30 p.m. in the 3700 block of Mahoning Avenue after determining that his license was suspended. He is slated to appear at 9 a.m. Thursday in Mahoning County Court here for arraignment.
