LAKE MILTON -- Milton Township police are investigating a report of rape at a Heston Drive home around 5 a.m. Saturday. A woman told Mahoning County deputy sheriffs, who handled the initial report, she went to the home to continue drinking after the bars closed. She said that she awoke to find a resident at the home removing her clothes and that he threatened to kill her if she told anyone. She was examined at St. Elizabeth Health Center. No other information was available.
Menacing charge
CANFIELD -- A Salem man was charged with aggravated menacing in connection with threatening a police officer in the Mahoning County Court courtroom around 11:40 a.m. Friday. Gary D. Main Jr., 22, of Duck Creek Road, told Beaver Township Patrolman Jeffrey Vegso he would kill him if Vegso wasn't wearing a gun and a badge, according to the Mahoning County sheriff's office. A court official said Main's girlfriend was involved in a case handled by Vegso. Main's initial appearance was Friday on the charge. A preliminary hearing is set for 10 a.m. June 28.
Two face gun charges
YOUNGSTOWN -- Two men were charged with having guns in a car that also contained two children at 11:30 p.m. Friday. Mahoning County deputy sheriffs said Richard R. Moore, 24, of Cohasset Drive was stopped while driving on Princeton Avenue. He was charged with improper handling of a weapon in a motor vehicle after a loaded 9mm handgun was found under the driver's seat, and having fictitious license plates. His two small children were in the back seat. Guardians came for the children, deputies said. The passenger, Jerrald Green, 31, of 421 Clyde St., was charged with improper handling of a weapon in a motor vehicle after deputies found a .357-caliber revolver near his seat, having a weapon after a previous conviction, and having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.
Burglary charges
AUSTINTOWN -- Two Youngstown boys, ages 17 and 12, were arrested Saturday night after trying to take a bicycle away from a woman on Edinburgh Drive here, police said. The 17-year-old, of South Truesdale Avenue, is charged with burglary and assault. The 12-year-old, of West Philadelphia Avenue, is charged with burglary. Police said the boys tried to take a bicycle from an Edinburgh Drive garage around 8:20 p.m., only to be chased away by a neighbor. The boys then tried to take another bicycle, which was grabbed by a 34-year-old Edinburgh Drive woman. A struggle ensued, and the 17-year-old tried to hit the woman, police said. Reports do not state if the woman was injured. The boys eventually fled, only to return later to Edinburgh Drive, where they were arrested. The boys' mothers told police they wanted the boys arrested.
Illegal-display citation
AUSTINTOWN -- A Warren man was cited for illegal display of a law enforcement emblem Friday evening when police found him in a car adorned with the words County Sheriff and a five-point star. Residents in the Ruby Court area called police about the man, 31, of Clearwater Drive, around 10:30 p.m. after seeing the car in their neighborhood. Reports do not state if the man was a sheriff or why he had the emblem on his car. Police stopped the man at the corner of Woodgate Drive and New Road.
Austintown fire
AUSTINTOWN -- Fire caused about $6,000 in loss early Saturday to a unit in a six-plex on Kerrybrook Drive. There were no injuries. The fire was caused by an electrical short in a bedroom around 1:22 a.m. at 4371 Kerrybrook Drive, and was contained to the bedroom. Smoke damaged the upstairs of the unit. Firefighters had the blaze under control in about 20 minutes.
Judge will speak
NORTH LIMA -- Mahoning County Court Judge Loren Popio will be guest speaker at this month's Beaver Township Crime Watch meeting. He will talk about the judicial system with an emphasis on domestic relations. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday and will be in the activity room at Shepherd of the Valley, 9111 Sharrott Road.
Construction-site theft
AUSTINTOWN -- An aluminum bender and a form shaper worth a total of about $1,200 were taken from a home under construction on Mallard Court late Thursday or early Friday. Reports state that the thieves entered the home by breaking a basement window. The tools were in the garage. Police are investigating.
Park pavilion rates
NORTH LIMA -- Beaver Township officials are keeping park pavilion rental rates the same as last year. Residents can rent a pavilion in either Memorial or Woodworth park for $40 for the day, which is 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., or for a half-day for $25. Scott Conway, park board chairman, said that there are several prime dates available and that many improvements have been made to the structures. For more information, call (330) 549-9295.
