LISBON Man sentenced for raping 16-year-old

The sentence follows a plea agreement reached last month.

LISBON -- A Salineville man was sentenced to 17 years in prison for the rape and beating of a Salineville girl earlier this year.
Douglas Davis, 31, of Walnut Ridge, received the sentence Friday from Judge David Tobin of Columbiana County Common Pleas Court.
Davis, who apologized in court for the crimes, received eight years for rape, a first-degree felony bearing a maximum 10-year prison sentence.
He received six years for felonious assault, a second-degree felony bearing a maximum eight-year prison sentence.
Judge Tobin also gave Davis three years in prison for using a gun in the crime.
In addition, the judge designated Davis a sexual predator. After he's released from prison, he will have to keep authorities advised of his address.
Davis pleaded guilty to the crimes in March in exchange for a plea deal with the prosecutor's office that included dropping a kidnapping charge against him. The prosecutor also recommended an 18-year prison term.
The judge, however, was not bound by the terms of the plea agreement and opted for the 17-year sentence.
What happened
Davis, an autoworker, abducted the 16-year-old girl at gunpoint Jan. 20 in front of or inside a coin-operated laundry on East Main Street in Salineville.
Davis did not know the girl and apparently picked her at random, authorities have said.
He drove her to a secluded spot in the village and raped her. After the rape, he struck her on the head with a rock.
The girl was later treated at East Liverpool City Hospital.
Police were assisted in tracking down Davis by the girl's description of him and the fact she saw a name on a prescription medication bottle that was inside his vehicle.
