LISBON Bond set at $1M for murder suspect

LISBON -- A Knox Township man charged in the murder of his estranged wife's friend is being held without bond.
Gregory Doak, 44, appeared Friday before Judge Robert Roberts in Columbiana County Municipal Court.
Doak is charged with murder, a first-degree felony bearing a maximum life sentence.
Judge Roberts granted Doak's request to have an attorney appointed to represent him. The judge also set a preliminary hearing for 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in municipal court.
The judge initially set Doak's bond at $1 million cash or surety. But later in the day, the prosecutor's office filed a motion asking that he be held without bond.
Judge Roberts ordered Doak held without bond until a hearing on the prosecutor's bond motion can be conducted. That hearing with be held Wednesday in conjunction with Doak's preliminary hearing.
Doak appeared in court just a day after being discharged from Akron City Hospital, where he was being treated for self-inflicted gunshot wounds.
He is accused of gunning down Teresa Stoffer, 42, on April 7.
Stoffer was a friend and neighbor of Doak's wife, Angela, 39. The women lived at a mobile home park off U.S. Route 62 in Knox Township.
Authorities say Doak went to the trailer park armed with a rifle and intending to shoot both Stoffer and his wife. Doak believed Stoffer had interfered with his marriage, investigators say.
Doak encountered Stoffer first outside her trailer and fatally wounded her. Doak then shot his way into his wife's trailer, but she had fled. Doak then shot himself.
He was being held Friday in the county jail infirmary.
