KSU Salem to offer new degree

SALEM -- Beginning this fall, Kent State University's Salem campus will provide a new bachelor's degree program in the medical field.
The Ohio Board of Regents has approved the offering of a bachelor of radiologic and imaging sciences technology degree at the regional campus along state Route 45 in Perry Township.
Graduates of the four-year program will be able to seek jobs at hospitals, physicians offices and other health-care facilities.
Program participants will have the option of seeking training in one of four concentrations -- CAT scan, magnetic resonance imaging, also known as MRI, ultrasound or nuclear medicine.
The latter concentration involves giving a patient a substance that allows special cameras to gather information about organs, tissues and bones.
KSU officials note that about 35 students already have expressed an interest in the program.
The bachelor's degree in radiologic and imaging sciences technology joins five other four-year programs already offered at the Salem campus.
They are early childhood education, business administration, nursing, technology, and human services and family studies.
