COLUMBIANA COUNTY Paving to include Route 170 stretch
State Route 170 paving will be done at night.
NEW PHILADELPHIA -- A series of paving projects totaling $1.2 million in Columbiana County is to include the heavily traveled state Route 170 in Calcutta.
The area to be resurfaced is a one-mile stretch beginning near the U.S. Route 30-state Route 11-state Route 7 interchange and Dresden Avenue, east to St. Clair Avenue.
Becky McCarty, public information officer for the Ohio Department of Transportation District 11, said contractors have not yet announced a starting date for that stretch of road.
The work by Tri-State Asphalt Corp., of Rayland, began Thursday on state Route 644 in Carroll and Columbiana counties. It is to be completed by July 31, she said.
Night work
Myron Pakush, District 11 deputy director, said the paving will be done at night, and traffic maintained. To encourage timely completion, the contractor will lose $2,000 per day each day the work continues past the contract deadline, he said.
The $1.2 million project also includes repaving of a half-mile of state Route 344 between Leetonia and state Route 11, and four miles of state Route 267 from East Liverpool's north corporation line to state Route 7.
