WASHINGTONVILLE Chief: Search continues for man's cash

In the hunt for the lost cash, police have followed leads to dead ends.
WASHINGTONVILLE -- Police Chief J.R. Blakeman is hoping that whoever found the nearly $10,000 lost by a 65-year-old resident will return it soon.
"I'd like to think there would be someone honest out there who knows something," he said. "We know the money was lost in the village. We're hoping someone will have second thoughts -- that they will contact us and return it any way they can.
"At this point, we're not as concerned about prosecuting someone as we are about seeing this man get his money back," Blakeman said.
Blakeman said police continue to investigate, but leads during the nearly two-weeklong search have come up empty and only the man's alarm clock has been found.
He said the man had recently sold some property and had the money in a bank bag. The money bag, his wallet with cash, credit cards and identification were in a plastic container along with an alarm clock. The alarm clock was later found in the village, he said.
Blakeman said the man put the container in the bed of his pickup, intending to move it to the cab. He neglected to do so, and drove to Salem.
Apparently the container fell out of the truck as the man made several turns on village streets.
