UNION TOWNSHIP Grant will pay for addition of ball field parking spots

New Castle, Pa. -- Fifty to sixty parking spaces will be created on Wilson Drive this year to ease parking problems during games at the Union Township baseball complex across the street from the municipal building.
The parking area will be just north of the municipal building and probably completed by late fall.
Supervisor Chairman Ralph Nuzzo announced that $45,000 in Community Development Block Grants has been designated for the project.
The remaining 2002 CDBGs will include $10,000 for the fire department, as announced previously, and $49,202 for housing rehabilitation, a program that has been going on for years, he said.
Fire hydrants
In other business, supervisors announced that the Pennsylvania-American Water Company has installed fire hydrants on McCracken Drive. A charge for the hydrants will appear on tax bills of residents there. Those who had hydrants installed should notify their homeowner's insurance carrier to receive a 10 percent premium reduction.
There was no comment during Thursday's meeting on hiring a police superintendent, a move that has stalled after months of controversy. Supervisors Nuzzo and Kevin Guinaugh had announced their intention several months ago to hire a police superintendent, and the subject has dominated the past two meetings, at which numerous residents voiced opposition.
But none of the 10 residents attending Thursday had anything to say. The supervisors were also silent on the issue, and Nuzzo said after the meeting that he will comment "when the time comes."
