Trumbull pupils are tops in math



WARREN -- Trumbull County pupils swept the 24 Challenge regional math competition in Cleveland's Gund Arena, taking home top honors in all three grade divisions Thursday.
Faisal Mangalji, a fourth-grader from North Road Elementary in Warren, won among fourth- and fifth-graders; Elena Ware, East Middle School in Warren, won in the sixth-grade division; and Dustin Muller, an eighth-grader from Howland Middle School, won among seventh- and eighth-graders.
Trumbull County sent 12 children to the competition that featured 190 pupils from 40 districts.
The Cleveland competition followed county and district competitions.
In 24 Challenge, children race against each other to be the first to form simple equations that equal 24.
Other medal winners from Trumbull County were Anthony Tam of Howland; Michael Mrosko of Liberty; Ghassan Elwanni of Liberty; Charda Smith of Warren; Jay Krishnan of Liberty; Melissa Lubert of Howland; Joshua Palmer of Weathersfield; Mike Pappas of Howland; and Rahim Mangalji of Howland.
