ON THE AGENDA Actions taken
City council handled these items Wednesday night:
Heard Mike Cossack Jr. ask that the city restore onstreet parking near his auto repair business at 837 Madison Ave. He needs the parking for customers and workers, which the city eliminated recently. He also complained about speeding drivers in the area and people, especially police, driving the wrong way on the one-way street.
Expressed council's intent to use $650,000 of the city's 2002-2003 federal money for street paving this year. That will be combined with about $480,000 of city money for paving.
Transferred $500,000 within the Community Development Agency budget to pay for housing demolition in 2002.
Appropriated $127,000 to pay bills related to the proposed civic center project, including $120,000 to MS Consultants of Youngstown for environmental assessment work.
Authorized the board of control to contract with Urban Strategies of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, to gather public input for the city's comprehensive plan. The estimated cost is $84,548.
Increased the amount -- from $25,000 to $38,000 -- to pay for the services of Hunter Morrison, who will be the city's liaison to the Youngstown State University master plan and also help the city with its comprehensive plan.
