Man to face charge
WARREN -- A 22-year-old Palmyra S.W. man was to appear in municipal court today to face a felonious assault charge. Police say Delmar Moore shot his father, Darrel A. Thorton, three times Wednesday afternoon. Moore is being held in the county jail. Thorton, who is in serious condition in a Cleveland hospital, was shot in the back and stomach, police said. Thorton was indicted recently by a Trumbull County grand jury on seven counts of rape. He has pleaded innocent.
Robbed in home
WARREN -- A 34-year-old Forest N.E. man told police two men robbed him at gunpoint in his home about11:54 p.m. Wednesday. The man said the two entered through the front door, which was unlocked.
Death ruled an accident
WEATHERSFIELD -- Trumbull County Coroner's Office has ruled the death of a man who fell from his bicycle an accident. Christopher L. Lewis, 48, of Earl Street, was killed when he fell off his bike after it struck a chuck hole. The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Lewis was riding along West Park Avenue at 2:49 a.m. Wednesday when the bike struck the hole. The coroner's office said today that Lewis, who was not wearing a helmet, landed on his face. He suffered an acute cervical spinal cord injury. Lewis' wife, Debbie, told a coroner investigator that her husband liked to walk or ride his bike daily. He returned home after working the afternoon shift and decided to take a ride because of the pleasant weather, the coroner's office said.
Sentenced over chase
GIRARD -- A 60-year-old Hubbard Township man has been sentenced to time served in the Trumbull County jail and fined $25 for leading police on a three-county chase. Municipal Judge Michael A. Bernard imposed the sentence with the understanding that Thomas King of Chestnut-Ridge Road gets a psychological evaluation. King was found guilty of failure to comply and speeding. Charges of aggravated assault and having a ficticious registration were dismissed. Hubbard Township police said they attempted to make a traffic stop April 6 at Chestnut-Ridge and Wick-Campbell roads. King fled, leading police through Trumbull and Mahoning counties. He was stopped in Calcutta in Columbiana County when the tires on his vehicle were flattened by a police puncturing device.
Autodesk Inventor 5
CHAMPION -- The Workforce Development and Continuing Studies Center at Kent State University-Trumbull Campus is offering Autodesk Inventor 5. Students will explore the fundamental routines and functions associated with the program, including using parametric modeling, sketching and dynamic viewing functions, the creation and modification of work planes and work axes, and the extrusion and revolution functions. Delivery man missing
YOUNGSTOWN -- A delivery man for Sleepy Hollow Sleep Shop on Salt Springs Road is missing after collecting $2,436 from a customer in New Middletown, according to police reports. The 31-year-old West Sider hasn't been back to work since Tuesday and hasn't been seen by his wife since then. His wife filed a missing person report.
