YOUNGSTOWN -- Firefighters used a rope, ladder and flexible skid Tuesday night to free a man who jumped into a trash bin in the 800 block of East Indianola Avenue. The man, identified on a police report as Greg White, 30, no address given, was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center. His condition was critical this morning. Police placed a hold on White, who reportedly had been seen about 9:30 p.m. kicking in a door at Lincoln Place, a facility for at-risk youth at 800 East Indianola. A witness said White cut himself on door glass and was bleeding heavily from one of his legs.
Judge dismisses charge
YOUNGSTOWN -- A felonious assault charge against Bernadette K. Hunter, 38, of West Parkwood Avenue was dismissed Tuesday in Youngstown Municipal Court by Judge Robert P. Milich after a motion by a prosecutor. Hunter had been accused of slashing her live-in boyfriend's face with a serrated knife and hitting him with her car. The episode took place April 6 in the 600 block of Griffith Street.
Man gets probation
YOUNGSTOWN -- Simeon Felder, 28, of West Glenaven Avenue, was placed on three years' probation Tuesday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court, where he had pleaded guilty to attempted felonious assault. Felder got into a fight with his former live-in girlfriend, Olivia Hudson, at their Glenaven Avenue home in August 2001. Assistant Prosecutor Deena Calabrese said Felder hit Hudson, 24, in the head with a car jack and kicked out the front windshield of a car she got into for shelter. When he got her out of the car, Felder grabbed Hudson by the hair and dragged her, pulling out some of her hair, Calabrese said. Despite a background check recommending prison for Felder, Hudson told Judge Robert Lisotto that she did not want to see him locked up. The couple has since separated. Calabrese also recommended a prison sentence.
Police probe robberyat Struthers Baptist
STRUTHERS -- Police are investigating a robbery at Struthers Baptist Tabernacle Church. Two church members discovered a computer missing around 11 a.m. Monday. After notifying the pastor and surveying the premises, several other items including pulpit microphones, a videocassette recorder, speakers, color printer, electric typewriter, intercoms, telephone and trash can were found to be missing. All of the doors and windows were secure and there appeared to be no forced entry, reports state. The building and its contents were last intact around 7 p.m. Sunday.
Hearing rescheduled
COITSVILLE -- A preliminary hearing has been reset for June 4 in Campbell Court for Faye B. Hildreth, 51, of 223 Mumford Road, Youngstown, charged with the assault and attempted felonious assault alleged to have occurred March 29 at VFW Post 6488, 2065 Coitsville-Hubbard Road. Police said Hildreth pushed and punched a 72-year-old Oak Street woman in the face after an argument inside the establishment and later tried to run her over with her automobile in the parking lot. Hildreth was arrested and arraigned on the charges April 9. She was released on $1,500 bond the same day.
Prescription-drug theft
AUSTINTOWN -- Several prescription drugs were stolen early Tuesday from a home on North Kimberly Avenue. A woman who lives in the home told police that 40 painkillers and 30 sedatives were taken at about 1 a.m. from her dresser. She was not home at the time, and police could not determine how the home was entered.
