At a special meeting this week, the board:
Accepted three low bids for work on the high school athletic complex: Komar Plumbing & amp; Heating Co. Inc., $86,498; Roth Brothers Inc. general construction, $44,581; Horton Electric, $87,797.
The board rejected all fencing bids because they were over the limit.
SOUTHINGTON
At its regular meeting Tuesday, the board:
Approved Mike Karr as boys basketball coach for next season.
Approved a two-year contract for Jim Badanjek as maintenance supervisor through June 30, 2004, with salary at $38,685 for 260 days. Jerry Kovar voted against the hiring.
Approved use of the Southington school building, grounds and equipment as disaster relief facilities through Dec. 31, 2002.
Approved use of multipurpose room by school employees for ballroom dance lessons on April 22, 29, May 6 and 13.
Heard several parents object to an additional $30 for prom tickets when the $80 class dues should have covered it. High school principal Dave Wilson said some students don't pay their class dues till late so the class doesn't have that money to work with. He added that costs have gotten out of hand and "it's time to trim expenses."
Heard Betty Sue Lefkowitz say she had paid $400 for two signs for the baseball field after the team won the East Suburban Conference championships in 1998 and 2000 and Jay Whitmore bought another one. She said all three signs have disappeared. The board said it would try to locate them.
