Lisbon woman fights off intruder

LISBON -- The Columbiana County Sheriff's Department is looking for a man who entered the home of a Lisbon woman, who fought him off with a butcher knife.
Sheriff Dave Smith said a man came to the door of a home on state Route 172 in Center Township about 9 a.m. Friday. The occupant was a woman home alone. She told deputies her husband was at work.
The man told her his car had broken down and asked to use the telephone, Smith said. When the woman went to retrieve the cordless phone, the man followed her into her home. She told him to leave and he pushed and grabbed her and began striking her on the face and arm, Smith said.
She fell into the kitchen, and as the struggle continued, he ripped her blouse, Smith said. When the man reached for some bottles of prescription drugs on the counter, the woman was able to pick up a butcher knife. The man fled when the woman threatened him with the knife.
She was treated at Salem Community Hospital, Smith said.
