WARREN -- The Harriet Taylor Upton Association will have its annual spring cleanup and barbecue at 9 a.m. May 11.
Anyone interested in helping to clean the historic house, at 320 Monroe Ave. N.W., along with its gardens, is welcome to participate. You're asked to bring your garden tools.

January 1939 Classof Harding to meet
WARREN -- The January 1939 Class of Warren G. Harding High School will meet at noon Tuesday at The Imperial Restaurant, 1860 Elm Road N.E. (across from the Elm Road Plaza).
Messages received from local and out-of-town members unable to attend will be shared with those present.
Monthly luncheons are held the third Tuesday of each month. Guests are welcome.
Recently, members voted against further nationwide reunions and presented their reunion account balance of $508 to The Warren City Schools Foundation for investment toward scholarships and educational projects.
Lifeguard classesset at Eastwood YMCA
NILES -- Eastwood Family YMCA will have lifeguard classes May 7 through 21. Classes will be from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.
To qualify, students must be at least 16, know all strokes and be able to swim 500 yards.
Lifeguard recertification will be from 5:30 to 9 p.m. April 30 and May 1. Contact Paula DeCaria, (330) 544-2383.
Permit approved
MINERAL RIDGE -- Weathersfield Township Board of Zoning Appeals has approved a conditional-use permit for the operation of an automotive detailing business at 3511 Main St. Dan Marriotti and Veronica Vega requested the permit to operate Mirror Images.
The board also approved a variance for a rear-yard setback for Ronald E. Edwards on a vacant lot on Niles-Carver Road, where Edwards plans to build a home. Although neighboring property owners expressed concerns over the construction of the home because it will be closer to the road than most other residences on the street, the board approved the variance by a 5-0 vote.
Volunteers sought
MINERAL RIDGE -- The Trumbull Mobile Meals program is seeking volunteers in Weathersfield Township to deliver meals at eight or nine stops, which should entail about an hour to an a hour and a half one or two days a week, township Administrator David Pugh said.
Any resident who is interested in volunteering to deliver meals should contact Pugh at the township office, (330) 652-6326.
Meeting on ceremony
NILES -- The McKinley Memorial Library Board of Trustees will conduct a special meeting at noon Wednesday at Alberini's to discuss the groundbreaking ceremony for the McKinley Birthplace Home and Research Center.
New patrol cars
LIBERTY -- Liberty police began putting five new marked cruisers on patrol today. Police Chief Anthony Slifka said one went on the road today and the rest will go during the week.
The department has 20 marked cruisers. Officers who live in the township take them home when off duty.
The township purchased the cruisers that cost $22,500 each because none had been purchased for two years.
"The fleet was really deteriorating. Some had more than 100,000 miles on them," Slifka said.
Gunman robsShell Gas Station
NILES -- An employee at the Shell Gas Station, Youngstown-Warren Road, told police that a gunman wearing a nylon stocking on his head and a black hooded sweat shirt robbed the store about 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
The employee said he opened the cash register after the robber put a gun to his head.
