DAY ONE

DAY ONE
8:26 a.m.: Entered Jefferson County.
9:02 a.m.: Stopped at George's Coffee Shop in Steubenville, known as the City of Murals because of numerous murals drawn on the sides of the city's downtown buildings. The sign outside George's, which serves homemade apple pie, is so old that most of the letters are missing, making it look like you are entering a restaurant called "C FEE HOP."
10:51 a.m.: Entered Belmont County.
10:57 a.m.: Stopped in Martins Ferry, known as Ohio's First Settlement, at the public library on James Wright Place, named for the poet who was born here. The library is a stone's throw from Lou Groza Highway, named for the famed Cleveland Browns kicker who also was born here.
12:24 p.m.: Entered Monroe County, known as Switzerland of Ohio because it was settled around 1800 by a group of Swiss immigrants who were floatboating down the Ohio River, stopped here one night and supposedly commented that the area reminded them of their homeland.
12:57 p.m.: Stopped at the Monroe County Beacon, the county's weekly newspaper in Woodsfield.
2:38 p.m.: Entered Noble County, known as Ohio's Youngest County.
2:58 p.m. : Visited McFarland's Barber Shop in Caldwell. McFarland's, a one-chair operation, is one of only three barber shops in Noble County.
3:45 p.m.: Entered Washington County, which claims that "Ohio's History Resides" here.
4:06 p.m.: Visited the Old Tool Shop and the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 168 union in downtown Marietta.
5:19 p.m.: Entered Athens County.
DAY TWO
7:38 a.m.: Stopped at the Court Street Diner in Athens.
9:08 a.m.: Drove along a winding, one-lane road that often floods and arrived in Meigs County.
9:27 a.m.: Visited Glockner's Cafe in Pomeroy, a community that boasts a one-sided Main Street. The other side of the street is the Ohio River.
10:47 a.m.: Entered Gallia County.
11:18 a.m.: Stopped at the Good News Bible Book Store in Gallipolis, the third oldest city in Ohio, settled about 1790.
12:15 p.m.: Entered Lawrence County.
1:05 p.m.: Visited the Ironton Barber Shop.
2:40 p.m.: Entered Scioto County.
3:20 p.m.: Visited the post office in Lucasville, the hometown of U.S. Rep. Ted Strickland.
