BERLIN CENTER Runners 1-2, key triumph in meet
Kevin Stonestreet and Jason Corman led McDonald to the boys title in the Western Reserve Invitational, while South Range took the girls crown.
BERLIN CENTER -- Kevin Stonestreet and Jason Corman finished 1-2 in the 800-meter run, leading McDonald High to the Western Reserve Invitational title with 104 points.
Waterloo finished second with 95 points, Mineral Ridge was third with 69 and Lisbon fourth with 66.
Stonestreet won the 800 in 2 minutes, 4.7 seconds and Corman was timed in 2:07.
Top throwers: Nick Panezich of Springfield and Rick Barbone of Western Reserve tied for MVP honors in the throwing events, each scoring 18 points.
Panezich won the discus with a throw of 144 feet, 4 inches, and was second in the shot put (48-61/4); while Barbone won the shot put (51-11/2) and was second in the discus (137-7).
David Mealy of Springfield tied for running MVP honors with Bill Govan of Waterloo, with 20 points apiece.
Mealy took first place in the 1600 (4:47.3) and the 3200 (10:01.9).
Greg Dominic shared MVP honors in the jumping events with Tim Crow of Independence as each scored 10 points. Dominic won the long jump (19-61/2).
Bill Govan of Waterloo was first in the 110 high hurdles (16.7) and 300 hurdles (43.0).
South Range wins: Julie Nemergut took first place in the 1600 (5:43.8) and the 3200 (12:04.4), helping South Range win the girls division of the meet with 91 points. Waterloo was second with 751/2.
Emily Freudenrich of Lordstown was running MVP with 20 points. She won the 400 (59.8) and 800 (2:24.8) and finished second in the 100 (13.2).
Junior Anna Marie Ricciardi of Western Reserve was the jumping MVP as she scored 20 points, helping the Blue Devils place fourth with 56 points.
Meet record: She took the high jump with a meet record of 5-41/4, bettering the old mark of 5-2 she set in 2000. Ricciardi also won the 300 low hurdles in 51.2.
Tiffany Hack of Mineral Ridge tied for MVP throwing honors with 11 points. She placed first in the shot put (36-23/4) and was eighth in the discus (96-11).
Joslyn Lawrence of Hillsdale was a double winner as she took the 100 (13.2) and the 200 (27.6). She was also third in the 400 (62.8).
Nicole Booth of McDonald finished second in the 100 hurdles (17.1) and 300 hurdles (51.7) and she was fifth in the 800 (2:41).
