The Citizens' League of Greater Youngstown has rated these candidates either "superior" or "qualified" in the May 7 primary election. A superior rating means the candidate is considered outstanding, while qualified means he or she could serve ably.
7th District Court of Appeals judge: Judge Joseph Vukovich and Judge C. Ashley Pike, superior.
Mahoning County Common Pleas Court judge: Timothy Franken, qualified.
59th Ohio House District: Ken Carano, qualified.
60th Ohio House District: Sylvester Patton, qualified.
61st Ohio District: John A. Boccieri, superior.
Mahoning County commissioner: David Ludt and Joseph Naples, qualified.
The Youngstown Chapter of the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus endorsed these candidates in the Democratic primary:
17th Congressional District: Timothy J. Ryan.
33rd Ohio Senate District: Robert F. Hagan.
59th Ohio House District: Kenneth A. Carano.
60th Ohio House District: Sylvester Patton Jr.
Mahoning County Commissioner: M. Mike McNair.
