LEETONIA Builders seek sidewalk variance

A township man wants to build condominiums east of the stadium.
LEETONIA -- A Salem Township man who plans to build condominiums on the village's north side is seeking a variance on sidewalk requirements.
Zoning Officer Scott Garlough said the zoning board of appeals will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday to consider a request from Bob Hendricks and others.
Garlough said Hendricks plans to build 49 condos on property that fronts 207 and 225 Chestnut Street, east of the high school stadium.
He said the development will have village water and sewer services and new roads. Garlough said the site plan Hendricks has proposed includes one sidewalk around and among the housing units, with none on the public road.
He said the plan requires a variance because the village zoning ordinance requires two public sidewalks, one on each side of the road.
Other requests: Also among the items the zoning board will consider is a request from Jim Roller of 224 Walnut Street.
Roller plans to build a 24-by-26-foot garage at the rear of the property, placing it 2 feet from the alley along his rear property line. Garlough said the zoning ordinance requires a building be no less than 15 feet from the property line.
Scott Rice of 43 Washington Street wants to build a 20-by-20-foot deck off the side of his house. Garlough said a variance is required because the zoning ordinance states decks installed off the front or side of a house cannot exceed 10 feet.
