Hearing set for suspect in Columbiana Co. shooting
LISBON -- An April 22 preliminary hearing date is set for a Center Township woman charged in the shooting Wednesday night of a Madison Township man.
Michaelene Duffy, 43, of St. Jacob-Logtown Road made an initial court appearance Friday morning before Judge Mark Frost of Columbiana County Municipal Court in Lisbon.
Duffy is charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony bearing a maximum eight-year prison sentence.
Victim: Authorities say Daffy shot Tom Rice, of 13484 state Route 7. His age is unavailable, although authorities think he is in his 50s.
Rice was taken to Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh after the shooting. His condition was critical. An update on his state wasn't available Friday afternoon.
A court document states Rice was shot with a firearm approximately seven times on the right side of his body.
Authorities say Duffy and Rice had disagreements connected with property Duffy had rented from Rice last year.
The dispute may have led to the shooting, which occurred at Rice's home, they said.
Judge Frost set Duffy's bond at $100,000, cash or surety. She was being held Friday afternoon in the county jail.
