TOLERANCE No Place for Hate

The program: No Place for Hate was created by the Anti-Defamation League with the Massachusetts Municipal Association in 1999 to provide communities with a framework for fighting hate and bigotry. It's since spread to other states.
Participation: Once a community expresses interest, a program representative explains how it can be effective. The organization then works with residents and municipal, school and faith leaders to create a local coalition. Municipal officers are asked to officially recognize the campaign.
Certification: Towns work toward being certified by completing at least three new activities that promote the program's ideals. Activities can range from talks to diversity day events to creation of community cookbooks. Certified communities are honored at an annual ceremony, where they receive road signs for the city limits, declaring "This is a No Place for Hate Community."
