PREP BASEBALL Stokes pitches no-hitter as Columbiana wins, 8-0



McDonald's Josh Camuso pitched a one-hitter and also hit three singles.
SEBRING -- Columbiana High junior Dean Stokes tossed his first no-hitter, striking out 11 and walking two, as the Clippers beat Sebring 8-0 in a Tri-County League game Thursday.
Stokes was 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBIs and a leadoff home run in the first inning. Ryan Schmidt added two RBIs, Gerard Grimm had two hits and an RBI and Drew Bland had two hits for Columbiana (5-2, 4-1 TCL).
Chaney 11, Warren Harding 1: YOUNGSTOWN -- Chaney pitcher Matt Kish struck out four and walked three.
Aaron Boris had two hits and three RBIs for Chaney (2-1) and Adam Boris added two RBIs and two stolen bases. Mike Withehen had two hits for Harding (3-2).
Boardman 8, Ursuline 2: BOARDMAN -- Matt Repec collected three hits, including a double, while winning pitcher Tom Zetts homered in a Steel Valley Conference game.
Sean Curry, Sean Weyant and Steve Franklin each had two hits for the Spartans (3-0, 2-0).
A two-run fourth inning allowed the Irish (1-2, 0-1) to narrow the gap to 3-2.
On Wednesday, Boardman beat Fitch 3-0. Repec homered and pitched four innings of one-hit ball. Repec (1-0) struck out five and Mike Krieger pitched the final three innings for his first save.
Weyant had two hits, Curry had an RBI single and Giancarlo Silvestri added an RBI double for Boardman. Brian Sterling (1-1) went 52/3 innings, giving up two runs (one earned) for Fitch (5-2, 0-1).
Struthers 13, Brookfield 3: STRUTHERS -- Jared Bogan belted a three-run homer and drove in four runs for the Wildcats (2-2).
Bob Benson collected three hits for Struthers, which scored nine times in the fourth inning.
Youngstown Christian 12, Rayen 6: YOUNGSTOWN -- Winning pitcher sophomore Mike Byrdy had three hits including two doubles and three RBIs for the winners (1-0).
Freshman Pat Bader also had two doubles for Youngstown Christian.
The Tigers are 1-1.
Girard 2, Hubbard 1: HUBBARD -- Jon Nastase had 11 strikeouts and two walks to lead Girard (5-1), while Shawn Petracca added two hits.
Kevin Libeg had 10 strikeouts and a walk for Hubbard (1-1).
Salem 9, Beaver Local 8: SALEM -- Pinch-hitter Geoff Cody singled home Jason Dangle with two outs in the bottom of the seventh.
Salem (2-5) trailed 8-7 when Ken Buckley singled with one out. Dangle followed with a double and Landon Heath hit an RBI single with two outs.
Brian Schwartz was 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBIs for Salem. Heath added two hits and three RBIs. Tyler Fox was 3-for-4 with three RBIs for Beaver Local (2-4).
Howland 5, Liberty 4: LIBERTY -- Jared Byler tripled to open the seventh inning, then scored the winning run when his brother, Arron, was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in a game Wednesday.
McDonald 16, Lowellville 1: McDONALD -- Josh Camuso pitched a one-hitter and also hit three singles to lead McDonald.
The only hit off Camuso was a solo home run by the Rockets' Nick Getsy. Mike VanDyke also added three hits for the Blue Devils (2-2), two of them doubles, and he had three RBIs.
Camuso struck out eight and didn't issue a walk.
Newton Falls 13, Mineral Ridge 0: MINERAL RIDGE -- Eric Lance pitched a three-hitter for Newton Falls. The Tigers (2-3) scored at least two runs in every inning and everyone in the starting lineup had a least one hit.
Scott Wilson led Newton Falls with a double, two singles, scored twice and drove in three runs.
Brian Fish also hit a double, single, scored twice and drove in two runs.
South Range 10, Jackson-Milton 1: NORTH JACKSON -- A five-run fourth inning and a seven-run fifth gave the Raiders its easy victory.
Bobby Miller also pitched a one-hiiter which also contributed to the easy win.
On Wednesday, South Range defeated Lowellville 10-1. Hogie Walley (1-0) pitched a one-hitter in going the distance to pick up the win.
