LOWELLVILLE Renovations to begin on town hall

LOWELLVILLE -- Construction begins April 21 at the village administration building on a $123,000 project that will make the building accessible to the physically impaired.
An elevator will be installed at the side entrance, said Councilman Bob Coppola. The project was primarily funded through federal community development block grants and should be completed by the end of May.
It was one of two construction projects discussed during a city council meeting Wednesday.
The other project, renovations to the front of the administration building, will involve replacing pillars that have been in place since 1935. It is a $15,000 project the village will fund, said Phillip Alfano, village administrator.
Replacement of the pillars is planned for early summer.
Tax officials: In other business, Frank Filisky, tax commissioner, told council that he will not seek to be renamed to his post when his two-year term ends early this summer and that a replacement should be sought.
The village clerk-treasurer appoints the tax commissioner with council's approval.
Senior citizens and the Lowellville Baseball Association received good news during the meeting.
The village recently received a new Chevrolet minivan to be used by the senior citizen transportation program, Alfano said, and built a temporary baseball field for ball players, on private property at Third and Liberty streets.
The van was bought with a grant from the Area Agency on Aging, Alfano said. The cost was not immediately available.
The baseball field was built because construction of the new school required demolition of the baseball fields used in past seasons.
