Traeger fourth
PITTSBURGH -- Youngstown State freshman golfer Dan Traeger finished with a two-round score of 149 (72-77) to place fourth at the Robert Morris-Duquesne Spring Golf Invitational, two shots behind medalist Brent McClung of Detroit.
The Penguins finished sixth in the team competition with a score of 641. Detroit won the meet with a 605 total.
YSU senior Brian Newell was seventh at 153 (77-76), Shawn Wire was eighth at 154 (76-78), Ryan Harmon tallied 165 and Jonah Karzmer shot 178.
Softball teamloses to Toledo
TOLEDO -- The Youngstown State softball team fell to 7-14 after dropping a doubleheader to Toledo, 8-2 and 5-1, in non-league action.
In the opener the Rockets scored three times in the first inning with two outs and led 6-0 after four. YSU finally got on the board with a two-out bases loaded double by sophomore Amanda Berry, who was 2-for-3 for the game.
In the nightcap Toledo jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first, and Rockets hurler Cortney Winslow shut down the Penguins the rest of the way.
Berry also had two hits in the nightcap, while sophomore Lacey Reichert had a double and scored the Penguins' only run.
The Penguins play host to Pittsburgh today at 3 p.m. at McCune Park in Canfield.

Capraruolo signing with Akron
BOARDMAN -- Mara Capraruolo, a senior at Boardman High, will sign a letter of intent today to play volleyball for the University of Akron.
Capraruolo, a three-year letterwinner, was a three-time All-Steel Valley Conference selection, a three-time all-district selection and was honorable mention all-state this season.
She has played Junior Olympic volleyball for the past five years and is currently on the Akron-Canton Elite.
She plans to major in business.
Canfield's Porterheaded to CSU
CANFIELD -- Mollie Porter, a senior at Canfield High, will sign a letter of intent today to play golf for Cleveland State University.
Porter was a first team All-Metro Athletic Conference selection the past three years and also received honorable mention from the Northeast Ohio Golf Coaches Association.
One of Porter's lowest scores came at last season's district tournament at Tam O'Shanter in Massillon when she shot an 86.
She plans to major in marketing.
Brookfield playersdecide on colleges
BROOKFIELD -- Brookfield High football coach Toby Gibson has announced that linebacker Jeremy Matthews and fullback Joe Nagy have made their decisions on where they will play college football next season.
Matthews, an All-TAC selection, will attend Mount Union College, while Nagy will attend West Liberty State University.
Dunn selected
POLAND -- Poland High senior Jamie Dunn has been selected to play in the North/South State Basketball All-Star Classic on Sunday at Otterbein College's Rike Center.
A guard, Dunn helped lead the Bulldogs to the Division II state tournament this past season.
The Div. III-IV teams play at 3 p.m., followed by the Div. I-II teams. The girls games will be held at noon and 1:30 p.m.
Fitch baseball teamoff to fast start
AUSTINTOWN -- The Austintown Fitch baseball team recently completed its spring trip to Cocoa Beach, Fla., compiling a 5-1 record.
The Falcons won games against Webster, Ky. 7-6, Henry Clay, Ky. 5-3, Massapequa, N.Y. 6-4, Shaker Heights 8-5 and Dublin 6-5. Their only loss was to Olentangy 5-4.
Standouts for the Falcons were Steve Burnich, who hit .500 after a 7-for-7 start. Other leading hitters were Shawn Sutton, Dan Noday and Mike McGlynn.
Warren in the lead
SHARON, Pa. -- The Warren entry in the Penn-Ohio Golf League continued its dominance Sunday when the two-time defending champions took the open round lead at Sharon Country Club.
Paced by two-over-par 73s by Chris Chieffo and Bob Blaze, Warren totaled 371/2 points to easily surpass runner-up Sharon Hickory VFW with 261/2. New Castle's Del Mar Golf Course was third with 191/2 and Youngstown Commissioner Ed Reese was fourth with 101/2.
New Castle's Jim Vetica was medalist with a 71. The next match will be April 20 at Del Mar Golf Course at 10 a.m.

NHL sets lottery
NEW YORK -- The NHL will hold its draft lottery next Tuesday to determine the order of selection for the first 14 picks of the 2002 draft.
Clubs that do not qualify for this season's playoffs, or teams that acquired the first-round drafting positions of those non-playoff clubs, will participate.
Since the team selected in the drawing may not move up more than four positions in the draft order, the only clubs with the opportunity to secure the first overall selection are the five clubs with the lowest regular-season point totals (or clubs that acquired those clubs' first-round drafting positions).
