YOUNGSTOWN Judge sets bonds in two felony cases

A South Side man appeared in court to answer a charge of threatening to kill his former girlfriend.
YOUNGSTOWN -- An East Side woman accused of trying to shoot a West Side woman was arraigned in municipal court on a charge of felonious assault.
Lisa A. Helms, 31, of Himrod Avenue, is accused of going to the Oakwood Avenue apartment of the 30-year-old woman, attacking her and twice pointing a loaded gun at her and firing. The weapon misfired, police reports show.
Judge Robert P. Milich ordered a $10,000 cash or surety bond Tuesday and prohibited Helms from contact with the other woman. Helms said she would retain an attorney.
Co-defendant Tashala Reese, 19, of Elm Street on the city's North Side, also faces a charge of felonious assault. She is accused of running into a neighboring apartment after the gun misfired and returning with a medium-sized kitchen knife, swinging twice at the victim and missing her.
Judge Milich set Reese's bond at $10,000 cash or surety bond, ordered Reese to have no contact with the victim and appointed an attorney to her case.
Another case: In another arraignment, a 20-year-old man was in municipal court on a felony charge of aggravated burglary and misdemeanor charges of aggravated menacing and domestic violence.
Police said Kevin L. Hunter kicked in the door of the East Philadelphia Avenue apartment he used to share with his ex-girlfriend, pulled a gun and threatened to kill her.
Hunter, who gave the East Philadelphia Avenue apartment as his address, pleaded innocent to the misdemeanors and entered no plea to the felony.
Judge Milich ordered Hunter to have no contact with the woman and set a $25,000 cash or surety bond on the felony and bonds of $2,500 on each misdemeanor. He also appointed an attorney.
Hunter broke into the South Side apartment at about 2:40 p.m. Monday while a child was in the home, according to police reports.
The woman, 20, told police she ran to the apartment's upper-level floor and jumped out a window to escape. Hunter told police he kicked down the door but denied having a gun or threatening her.
