WEATHERSFIELD Trustees OK creating plan for township

MINERAL RIDGE -- Weathersfield Township trustees approved Tuesday the creation of a comprehensive plan for the township by the Trumbull County Planning Commission at a cost of $10,000.
The project will take two years, Trustee Fred Bobovnyk said. The plan would have four major components: inventory, analysis, a plan and an implementation schedule.
Bobovnyk noted that computerization of the information will help make the plan very detailed. The township last had a comprehensive plan done in 1991-92, also by the county.
Police promotion: Trustees named Michael Naples of Girard a captain in the police department, effective Monday. Naples replaces Joseph Consiglio, who has taken over duties of police chief. Naples, 37, will earn $41,002 a year. He will serve a one-year probationary period.
Naples has been a police officer 17 years, starting in 1984 in Warren Township; then from 1986 to 1995 was a patrolman and handled warrants before later becoming juvenile officer in Weathersfield. He has been with the Girard Police Department, where he worked in the traffic and detective divisions and served as school resource officer and juvenile officer.
Trustees also approved the spring cleanup program, accepting a bid from Wolfords Inc. of Girard, the sole bidder at $15,000.
The cleanup will start April 29. Residents must put out all of their items for pickup the night before. The pickup schedule will continue through May 4. Not eligible: Items that will not be picked up are paint, tires, lumber, building materials, bricks or blocks.
The Mineral Ridge Fire Association has donated a four-wheeler valued at $5,000 to the township to be used by the fire department to fight brush fires and which will also be available for use by the police department, Fire Chief Randy Pugh said.
Trustees approved accepting bids on a 2002 paving project, but the streets to be considered will not be finalized until the bids come in, administrator Dave Pugh said.
Trustees also approved a list of five condemned houses that the clerk has been authorized to seek demolition bids on: 1313 Harrison St., 2356 Ninth St., 2312 Ninth St., 2898 Covington St. and 3120 Youngstown Road.
