YOUNGSTOWN -- A 30-year-old East Side man was in stable condition this morning in St. Elizabeth Health Center with gunshot wounds to the left hand and arm and his right leg.
David Bridgeforth of Charlotte Avenue was shot once at a Delason Avenue residence about 12:20 a.m. today by a man with whom he had a fight Tuesday night, he told police. He said he had been in a fight with the shooter and another man at the Delason Avenue residence and they had returned in a Ford Bronco with a female driver and a third man.
He said the three men fled on foot after the shooting. The female left with the driver of a different vehicle, leaving the Bronco at the Delason address.
Threat against parents
YOUNGSTOWN -- City police arrested a 21-year-old city man who is accused of pulling a gun and threatening to kill his parents at their South Side home. The mother told police her son had a gun in the West Florida Avenue house around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.
When she tried to get it, he pulled it out and threatened to shoot. The son then fled in a car. Officers later found him hiding under basement steps at the home. They found a handgun in a cloth bag tied to the battery of a car he drove. His parents said a different gun was used to threaten them.
'Huffing' on bus
YOUNGSTOWN -- City police confiscated a newspaper-like item inside a sandwich bag that was taken from a Chaney High School student who said he and other students were "huffing" it while being taken home on a Community Bus Services bus Tuesday. The driver of the bus and an assistant saw a male student give a plastic bag to a female who put it to her face and sniffed. Another female did the same. Both became ill and vomited. The bus assistant took the bag and sniffed it, also becoming sick. "Huffing" involves sniffing gasoline, glue or another substance to get a high.
Chased by a stranger
YOUNGSTOWN -- An eighth-grade Hillman Middle School pupil told city police he was approached and chased by a stranger as he walked to school. The boy said he was on Oak Hill Avenue near Cleveland Street around 7:40 a.m. Tuesday when approached by a heavy-set, bald black man, about 30, wearing a full-length black leather coat and no shirt, police reports show. The man said "Come here. How old are you?" and the boy said "no," walked away and began running, with the man chasing him until they reached Myrtle Avenue.
