FULLY SPAIN, 90 Retired Trumbull lawyer dies; had longtime career in area

For many years, he shared his law practice with his brothers.
WARREN -- Fully Spain, who practiced law in Trumbull County for more than 60 years, will be greatly missed, an appeals court judge says.
Judge Donald Ford of the 11th District Court of Appeals said he was saddened to hear the news that his longtime friend had died.
Spain, 90, of Warren, died Monday evening at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Church.
"He was the nicest gentleman and an absolutely devoted family man," Judge Ford said. "He was an extremely competent lawyer who was always well-prepared for his cases. We are really going to miss him."
Spain handled mainly domestic relations law but also did some criminal work, Judge Ford said.
His background: Born in 1911 in Aquaila, Italy, to a tailor and his wife, Spain and his family immigrated to the United States in 1914.
Spain had said in an interview with The Vindicator when he retired in 2000 that his decision to become a lawyer was because of his mother. She packed his bag, complete with homemade cookies, and told him he was going to law school in America, like his older brother, Alex. For many years, he shared his law practice with his brothers, Alex and John, now both deceased.
Spain said he preferred representing women. He said he always wanted to make sure that a woman and her children would be properly supported.
Spain's wife, Virginia Pannotti Spain, whom he married in 1942, died April 19, 1995. His son, Fully R. "Tee" Spain Jr., three brothers and two sisters are deceased.
He is survived by his daughter, Marylee McClain of Warren, a sister and a stepgranddaughter.
